2022 was a great year for film, with a wide variety of critically acclaimed and commercially successful movies released. Here are our picks for the top 10 best movies of 2022:

10. KIMI

Starring Zoe Kravitz, KIMI is an American thriller film written and produced by David Koepp.

The movie’s plot revolves around a tech worker struggling with agoraphobia who uncovers evidence of violent crimes but is resisted by her colleagues. The only way for her to seek justice is to leave her apartment, which is the thing she fears most. ” KIMI” is, without a doubt, a well-paced, exhilarating gem from one of the most distinguished American filmmakers that explores how even an agoraphobic can’t be alone forever.

9. Nope

Jordan Peele’s Nope adds a Spielbergian flair to his growing repertoire due to its originality and ambition. Starring Daniel Kaluuya, Keke Palmer, and Steven Yeun, Nope is a neo-western sci-fi thriller that will surely leave an impression. The film features a pair of siblings running a horse ranch in California who discover an unidentified flying object in the skies above. An adjacent theme park owner seeks to profit from the apparition while the siblings work with a tech salesman and a renowned cinematographer to capture video evidence of the unidentified flying object.

8. Happening

A challenging but rewarding watch, Happening portrays the heartbreaking consequences of an impossible decision.

The film is about abortion in France in the 1960s, when it was illegal, and everyone was afraid of breaking the law, so no doctor would risk jail if a woman requested an abortion. Anne, our protagonist was devastated since she was forced to throw away her desire to pursue a career and her future because of an accident. The film dives deep into the tough and often unspoken turns of life in a melodramatic way, accentuated by Anamaria Vartolomei’s performance.

The popular DC superhero gets a remake in 2022, through The Batman movie starring Robert Pattinson as the titular Batman also known as Bruce Wayne and Zoë Kravitz as the Cat woman. Taking place in the well-known Gotham City, after a sadistic killer leaves behind cryptic clues in Gotham City’s underworld, Batman ventures there to investigate. In order to bring justice to the abuse of power and corruption that has long plagued the metropolis, he must forge new relationships, uncover the perpetrator, and uncover the scale of the perpetrator’s plans.

6. Turning Red

Set in Toronto, in the year 2002, the story explores the life of Meilin Lee, a Chinese-Canadian student with a hereditary curse that turns her into a giant red panda upon feeling strong emotions. The thirteen-year-old girl must choose between remaining her mother’s dutiful child and growing up. Pixar continues to create family-friendly movies with Turning Red, a delightful, hilarious, beautifully animated, and culturally expansive film. Pixar fans are sure to enjoy Turning Red’s emotion and visual appeal, even though its message might be uncomfortable for some parents.

5. Jujutsu Kaisen 0

This beautifully animated movie has something for every fan of Jujutsu Kaisen 0 — and its story is noteworthy as a standalone as well.

Visuals created by Mappa, the well-known animation studio, perfectly portray the prequel story of Jujutsu Kaisen.

In order to control the extremely powerful, cursed spirit Yuta Okkotsu enrolls in the Tokyo Prefectural Jujutsu High School. Due to the potential threat posed by his “curse,” the sorcerers keep an eye on him as he controls his power and guides him in order to keep him safe.

Despite the absence of the original anime’s protagonist, the story still includes most of Jujutsu High School’s original cast, such as Gojo Satoru, Maki Zenin, Toge Inumaki, and Panda.

4. X

In X, Ti West returns to his horror roots with a fresh spin on the classic slasher formula.

 A cast of stars includes Mia Goth, Jenna Ortega, Martin Henderson, Brittany Snow, Owen Campbell, Stephen Ure, and Scott Mescudi. On a rural Texas property owned by an elderly couple, a cast and crew are gathering to film a pornographic film, but they are threatened by a killer as they begin production.

This gruesome horror film from the 1970s had great cinematography making sure our eyes are glued to the screen as we wait for what is next.

3. Everything Everywhere All At Once

Written and directed by Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert, Everything Everywhere All at Once is an American surrealist comedy drama.

In it, Michelle Yeoh stars as a Chinese American woman confronted by an IRS audit. When she discovers that a powerful being is attempting to destroy the multiverse, she connects with parallel universe versions of herself. A multiverse concept was researched by Kwan and Scheinert in 2010, and the screenplay was written in 2016. In the original script, Jackie Chan was assigned the lead role. Yeoh was then offered the role after some reworking

2. The Northman

An epic revenge story with breathtaking visuals, The Northman is a film directed by Robert Eggers that focuses on historical action thrillers.  Heavily influenced by Norse Mythology, it stars Alexander Skarsgård, Nicole Kidman, Claes Bang, Anya Taylor-Joy, Gustav Lindh, Ethan Hawke, Björk and Willem Dafoe.

Prince Amleth was barely an adult when he witnessed his father’s brutal murder and the kidnapping of his mother by his uncle. Twenty years later, Amleth raids Slavic villages as a Viking. In no time, he meets a seeress who prompts him to remember his vow of saving his mother, killing his uncle, and avenging his father.

Directed by Joseph Kosinski, Top Gun: Maverick is an American action movie that delivers a wildly entertaining sequel that surpasses its predecessor.

The film is the sequel to Top Gun, which was released in 1986, bringing back Tom Cruise as the protagonist Pete “Maverick” Mitchell.

Despite his long-standing status as one of the Navy’s greatest aviators, Pete is avoiding promotion that would ground him. As Maverick trains Top Gun graduates for a specialized mission, the likes of which have never been attempted before, he meets Lt. Bradley Bradshaw, son of late Lt. Nick Bradshaw, his best friend. As Maverick faces new challenges, he must finally come face to face with his past.
